The Opportunity

Illinois State University, a nationally ranked public R2 institution committed to teaching, scholarship, civic engagement, and inclusive excellence, invites applications and nominations for the position of Associate Vice President for Undergraduate Education (AVPUE). Reporting directly to the Provost and serving as a key member of the academic leadership team, the AVPUE will provide visionary, collaborative leadership to advance undergraduate student success, teaching excellence, and curricular innovation across the University.

The AVPUE will play a central role in advancing Excellence by Design: 2024–2030, Illinois State’s strategic plan focused on student success, institutional distinction, and cultivating a culture of belonging. This position represents a defining opportunity to help shape the undergraduate experience at a comprehensive, research-active university committed to access, equity, and excellence for all students.

The AVPUE provides strategic leadership for undergraduate retention and student success initiatives; oversees the University’s General Education program; collaborates with the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee, the Council for Teacher Education, and the Council on General Education; and partners with college deans to ensure appropriate instructional capacity for General Education and intersession (summer and winter) courses.

The AVPUE also serves as a liaison to an Academic Senate internal committee and works closely with the Provost and members of the Academic Affairs leadership team within a shared governance environment.
