The University of South Carolina (USC) invites nominations, inquiries, and applications for the position of Dean, School of Medicine Columbia (SOMC). The university seeks an exceptional individual to provide leadership and direction for the School of Medicine as it continues to expand its footprint on the new Health Sciences Campus in Columbia, S.C. Reporting to the Executive Vice President and Provost, the dean serves as the chief academic and administrative officer of the SOMC and is a key member of USC’s academic leadership team. The dean is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the academic mission and for achieving the school’s strategic priorities, enabling the school to fulfill its mission to serve the people of South Carolina and beyond, through exemplary biomedical education, transformative research, and compassionate care for all.
The Dean of the School of Medicine at the University of South Carolina is responsible for the executive administration of the school and provides visionary leadership in developing strategic initiatives to move the school forward by increasing enrollment, broadening the research profile of the school, promoting innovation, developing external partnerships, and cultivating relationships with donors. The dean will contribute to the development of the new health science campus in Columbia, working with the university executive team to develop long-term planning for the medical school and implementing initiatives to assist in achieving the goals of the university’s strategic plan. The incoming dean also has the possibility of a clinical appointment in the Prisma Health Center.
